[Translation] VS Arashi Ep. 36 Junia + Akina
A late Christmas + New Year's Present to everyone ^____^

I hope everyone had a good one!~

...By the way, know what's one of the things I like best about Arashi? They like to address each other as "Name-san".

It's such a small thing, yet I think it speaks so highly of their attitude towards one another. When referring to each other in front of outsiders they always use nicknames, but just between themselves, they love adding "san".

It always feels to me like they're actually saying "I think you're an idiot, but I still respect you!!!"

They probably only go to all this trouble because of the cameras, but still, it sets them apart in my mind from all the other Johnny's groups who get by with the all-purpose "kun."

...The point being: if anyone wants to know why I kept all those "san's" in there, that's why. =DD

Sho: It’s almost Christmas.
Nino: In four days it’ll be Aiba-san’s birthday.
Caption: [Turning 26 years old]
Aiba: Thank you very much.
Sho: Actually, does Aiba-kun give the impression of being 26?
Ohno: No…
Nino: No, he seems 25 to me.
Sho: I feel he’s 24.
Jun: He’s twenty….four, I guess.
Aiba: My appearance? I look 24?
Sho: Aiba-san, name a celebrity who’s the same age as you. For example, in Ohno-san’s case there’s –
Ohno: Che Honman. (28 years old)
Sho: He’s the same age as Che Honman-san. How about you, Aiba-san?
Aiba: Who? Ah – born in ’82?
Sho: Oh, I was born in ’82.
Aiba: But you were born earlier.
Sho: Well by school-year standards… (*Japanese schools start in April*)
Jun: But we don’t have anything like school anymore.
Sho: Well in that case, I’d be in the same year as Aiba-kun.
Jun: Well that’s fine, isn’t it?
Aiba: Well then – SHO!
Aiba: So Sho it is.
Nino: That’s how it is, right?
Sho: What’s with this action?
Sho: Once again, I ask your favour.
Aiba: Your favour, please.

Sho: Let’s welcome our guests today, here they are!
Sho: Our guests today are Chihara Junia-san and Minami Akina-san. Your favour, please.
Junia: Thank you.
Akina: Thank you.
Nino: It’s kind of – I’m sorry to say this after they’ve come out, but – I feel like we’re going to win.
Jun: First of all, Akina can’t really move, right?
Akina: I suck at sports.
Aiba: Right?
Jun: I don’t think Junia-san can move either.
Nino: What club did you join in junior high?
Junia: Um… I didn’t … go to junior high.
Aiba: Let’s stop asking!
Jun: I bet he can’t move.
Nino: But you need the strength to cover for Akina this time.
Junia: You’ve never seen my skip, have you?
Aiba: I want to see!
Nino: Stop it, stop.
Jun: Let’s stop.

Sho: Our first game is Cliff Climb.
Sho: The guest team will go first. You’ll have to climb this wall. Who’s going to go?
Akina: Hai.
Sho: Seriously?
Akina: Hai.
Sho: Can you do it?
Akina: Hai.
Aiba: Are you going to be okay?
Jun: Eh? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?
Junia: Actually, I said I’d go, but Akina said “Please let me do it.”
Junia: And also, “Junia-san is not even going to go.”
Akina: I didn’t say that. I didn’t say that.
Sho: By the way, are you confident?
Akina: Pretty confident.
Akina: I don’t look it, but my arms are pretty strong.
Sho: We’re glad if you do.
Akina: But I do have strong arms.
Sho: Do this. Do this.
Caption: [Hard to tell]

Sho: Please go stand by!
Sho: Junia-san, please stand-by over there.
Narrator: The first match is Cliff Climb. The Climber is Akina. The Support is Junia-san.
Junia: Hai.
Narrator: Because we have a girl challenger this time, we have added a fifty-point button to the top right-hand side. Since we have a girl playing this round, Arashi, is this handicap all right with you?
Jun: Wouldn’t it be better to have an even bigger handicap?
Aiba: I don’t think she can even get up there.
Akina: I’ll definitely get there, just you watch.
Sho: But that’s – okay, just go like that.
Aiba: We’ll go with that?
Jun: But don’t you think it’d be difficult for her?
Sho: Mm. Let’s not give her too much.
Aiba: I guess so. Right, right.
Junia: Akina. Um. Let’s go with Pattern B.
Akina: Pattern B. Gotcha.

Narrator: What strategy will they go with? Akina, are you ready?
Akina: Hai.
Narrator: Then let’s begin. You have 60 seconds. Cliff Climb, start!
Narrator: She’s started climbing. She’s going up fast! She’s already gotten 50 points! She quickly gets 60 points, and then 90 points.
Junia: Ready?
Akina: Hai.
Narrator: Okay, he’s – uh-oh!
Akina: Junia-san!
Akina: Junia-san!
Nino: Hurry up!
Narrator: His second time, it gets to Akina. Akina’s got the grip. Only 30 seconds left.
Jun: She’s good.
Narrator: She pulls herself up and then it’s 50 points! And then 30 points. She has 170 points at the top, and she’s cleared it!
Akina: I did it!
Narrator: She’s cleared it beautifully! With 270 points!
Nino: You did a magnificent job just now. It’s just your Supporter that was horsing around by himself.
Aiba: He wasn’t reliable at all in the second half of the round.
Nino: What were you doing?
Junia: I was like this, and then all at once – please come up here.

Narrator: For Arashi’s round, the Climber will be Matsumoto-kun, and the Support will be Ohno-kun.
Jun: What should I do, Leader? But it’s not like asking you will tell me anything.
Sho: Ask and see! Ask and see!
Nino: Sometimes you can ask him.
Jun: What’s the strategy?
Ohno: You should start from the right.
Sho: And then?
Ohno: Get all the 10’s starting from the right. And then if you can jump up there, you can get the 30’s…
Jun: Wait. Wait. Wait.
Jun: How am I supposed to do this?
Sho: The part where it juts out? There aren’t many grips there.
Ohno: That’s why I’ll give you two grips so you can get up there…
Jun: IF you can give me two grips.
Nino: Give it a try!
Ohno: Well I won’t be horsing around.
Narrator: Let’s begin. You have 60 seconds. Cliff Climb, start!
Narrator: Matsumoto quickly gets up there and grabs 30 points. It’s 40, then 50!
Sho: So fast.
Narrator: 60. He’s got 70 points. Just like they planned – Leader passes and he grabs it! He’s ascending into the rat trap zone part now. Another 30 points, he’s at 130 now. Already, he’s only got 30 seconds left. He couldn’t grab it!
Aiba: Leader, take it easy, okay?
Narrator: There’s 30 seconds left! Will this pass succeed? He couldn’t grab this one either!
Aiba: There’s no time!
Narrator: Right now he’s on 130 points. He’s got it! Now he’s only got 10 seconds left! Will he make it? He made it! He made it! Though he barely made it in time, he’s cleared it nicely!
Jun: Excuse me.
Jun: That took awhile!
Ohno: 6__6… 9__9

Sho: The next game is Rolling Coin Tower!
Narrator: For Rolling Coin Tower, we have Ninomiya-kun and Sakurai-kun as the challengers. Guest-team, Junia-san? Are you good at this kind of game?
Junia: I can do it. I’m okay!
Narrator: How about you, Akina?
Akina: I don’t have any concentration, so this is going to be tough. But I’ll do my best.
Sho: It doesn’t really take that long.
Narrator: The difference in score is a mere 10 points. Who will take the lead at this stage? Is everyone ready? Let’s begin. Rolling Coin Tower, start!
Narrator: First of all is Akina, who gets 30 points. Points will add up based on the amount of the coins. Sakurai also gets 30 points.
Jun: Take it slowly.
Narrator: How will Junia-san do? He’s staggered the coins! Oh look at this. Ninomiya-kun has also added his. Akina gets 30 points. The balance has become quite complicated now. Sakurai-kun, also 30 points. You must put three coins on each turn. Junia-san gets another 30 points.
Jun: Junia-san is pretty good.
Sho: This is scary. It’s already gotten scary.
Narrator: Here Ninomiya also gets 30 points. Both teams are passing perfectly.
Aiba: Ah, not good, not good.
Narrator: She’s clear! And the tower has gotten tall now. It’s swaying now. He has a serious expression. Will he? He’s clear! How will Ninomiya do? He’s clear!
Junia: Slowly! Slowly!
Narrator: Here, Akina adds the 5-point coins. Both teams have used up their 10-point coins.
Akina: Junia-san, you can do it!
Narrator: It’s getting quite – the tower is getting quite high! This will be quite a severe competi – Oh! The last one was Ninomiya!
Nino: I couldn’t do it.
Narrator: That one to make it fall at last is Ninomiya! Guest-team gets a bonus 100 points!
Sho: You’re good, Junia-san.
Nino: You’re actually good at this, aren’t you?
Junia: Ninomiya-kun. Don’t worry about it!

Sho: Our last game is Falling Pipe! Team Arashi will be going first.
Nino: It’s been awhile, eh?
Sho: It has.
Aiba: That we lost.
Sho: At this stage, we have to play this right.
Aiba: We have to play this right.
Jun: It’s important, you know.
Sho: Who’s going to go?
Aiba: Hai!
Sho: Off you go.
Sho: And for the Pipe Choice, who will go?
Junia: Hai!
Sho: Please head over there.
Narrator: At this stage, the Guest-team is leading by a hundred points. The challenger is Aiba-kun. The pipe choice is Junia-san.
Jun: This is important!
Aiba: It’s important, right?
Jun: Junia-san is pretty tough.
Aiba: I think so too, that’s why I don’t really want to look him in the eye right now. I’m going to do this without looking in his eyes.
Narrator: Very well, Junia-san. Please choose two pipes.
Junia: Hai! He’s staring at me.
Narrator: Junia-san has chosen his pipes.
Aiba: What should I do. Shall I do the Full View Offensive?
Junia: What is that?
Nino: Well even if you do, it won’t be a strange development.
Aiba: That’s right! We’re about to lose, right?
Aiba: It’s just, it’s embarrassing!
Jun: But more than that, this is a competition, right?
Aiba: That’s right. I’ll do my best for Arashi!
Aiba: Ahh, this is embarrassing.
Narrator: Aiba-kun, how many points are you aiming for?
Aiba: Well, 200 and 200 to make 400.
Narrator: Aiba wants to aim for 400 points. The time limit is 20 seconds. Within these 20 seconds, Junia-san can drop the pipes at his discretion. Let’s begin. Falling Pipe, start!

Junia: Aiba-kun.
Aiba: Hai.
Junia: Er. Okay, look at me when you talk. Aiba-kun.
Aiba: J-Just – hold on –
Junia: Aiba-kun.
Aiba: Hai. I looked at you for a second.
Junia: According to what I heard, you got into the shower together with Ninomiya-kun at a concert place?
Narrator: It’s a double catch! 50 points and 100 points! Aiba gets 150 points!
Jun: Well done!
Aiba: We’ve narrowed the gap in one stroke, haven’t we?
Junia: Eeeh. Amazing!
Nino: We don’t know what will happen next!

Sho: Aiba-san, Aiba-san. I didn’t know about this either, but… you got into the shower together?
Nino: We were in the same shower, weren’t we?
Aiba: That’s right <3
Sho: Does that mean you were using the same shower?
Nino+Aiba: Correct.
Jun: I heard quite a bit of that, those two in the next stall. It was kinda…
Aiba: Okay, it’s not like that.
Nino: He walked in while I was already inside. Saying stuff like “Mail!”
Caption: [Mail!?]
Jun: Mail?
Nino: I was washing my head, and suddenly he goes “You’ve got mail!”
Aiba: Junia-san, please understand. There were only 2 or 3 showers at that concert venue.
Junia: Uh-huh. Okay.
Aiba: And when I got there, they were already all filled. This was MatsuJun, this was Sho-chan. If it was Nino – okay first, if I walked in on MatsuJun I’d get kicked out. I thought the safest one to go with was Nino, so I asked if I could wash with him. Something like, “Though the party is in full swing”– kinda.
Nino: Thank you very much.

Narrator: Next up we have Akina as the Catcher. From the other team, we have Matsumoto-kun doing the Choice. And oh – she’s changed from sitting cross-legged.
Sho: It’s going to be awkward, so just don’t try the Full View Offensive, okay?
Akina: I won’t!
Narrator: Matsumoto-kun, please choose two pipes.
Akina: His arms aren’t moving.
Jun: Hai.
Narrator: You’ve decided?
Jun: Yes.
Narrator: Akina, are you ready?
Akina: Yes. I’m going to drop #3.
Narrator: Let’s begin. You have 20 seconds. Falling Pipe, start!
Jun: Akina, there’s a Tanaka-san in Angaaruzu, isn’t there? Is it true you’re aiming for him?
Akina: No I’m noooot!
Narrator: She didn’t catch both, but she did get 30 points!
Narrator: This is becoming an interesting match. The difference now is a mere 20 points!
Junia: And now? Who’s going now?
Sho: Of course, the catcher will be?
Ohno: Hai!
Aiba: Leader!
Narrator: In the last round of Pipe catching, it’s looking like the winner will finally be decided.
Nino: Put your mind to it.
Narrator: Akina, please choose two pipes.
Akina: Hai.
Jun: I wonder how much he’ll get.
Sho: This is a good match, huh?
Akina: I’ve decided.
Jun: Are you going to be okay?
Nino: You can do it! You can do it!
Narrator: We’ll see how many points Leader can accumulate. How many do you want?
Ohno: Well as much as possible.
Narrator: We know that.
Ohno: A hundred…
Nino: That’s what everyone wants.
Ohno: I want to get a hundred.
Jun: You’re not dropping any of them?
Ohno: Nope.
Jun: You’re not dropping any of them?
Ohno: Nope.
Jun: Oh my.
Narrator: Let’s begin. You have 20 seconds.
Jun: We’re counting on you.
Narrator: Falling Pipe, start!
Akina: Ohno-san, I heard you cut your hair yourself. In what way do you do this?
Ohno: First I go from side-to-side.
Narrator: Double catch! 200 points and 30 points! Leader Ohno got 230 points! The pressure in this match is mounting higher and higher! Leader Ohno got 230 points for Arashi!

Sho: In one stroke, we’ve widened our difference to 250 points. Ju-Junia-san?
Junia: It’s impossible now!
Akina: What? What are you talking about?
Junia: I can still go!
Jun: If you can get 200, and more than 50 here. So if it’s 300 or 400, you’ll win.
Sho: Let’s go, Junia-san! If you please.
Narrator: We are now at the final round.
Nino: Sho-san. You probably know this already, but this is important, okay?
Sho: I know.
Jun: This is the climax.
Sho: I know.
Sho: I’ll finish this without Junia-san touching a single one of those pipes.
Nino: We’re looking forward to it.
Jun: Let’s move away from him a bit, shall we?
Narrator: The score difference is 250 points. If Junia-san doesn’t get more than that, he will lose.
Jun: Can he do it?
Narrator: If he can get 300 points, the Guest Team will win.
Nino: Sho-san. That is what we don’t want.
Nino: Sho-san. That is what we Do. Not. Want.
Sho: Got it.
Narrator: Sakurai-kun. Please choose two pipes.
Sho: I’ve chosen them.
Narrator: Sakurai-kun of Arashi Team has finished choosing.
Jun: What are you going to do, Junia-san?
Junia: I’m going for two!
Narrator: Which two will those be?
Junia: 2 and 4!
Jun: 2 and 4.
Junia: It…isn’t 2 and 4?
Junia: No, I seriously really want to win. I definitely want to win!
Akina: Do your best!
Junia: I really want to win.
Narrator: If the Guest Team wants to win, they’ll have to get over 300 points.
Jun: Stop changing your mind!
Aiba: Hurry up, Junia-san!
Nino: You just said 2 and 4!
Junia: I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.
Junia: Can I do the Full View (Strategy)?
Narrator: Uh-oh. The tall Chihara Junia is going for –
Aiba: The Full View Strategy.
Narrator: –The Full View Strategy!
Junia: Hold on, give me a number.
Nino: 1, 2.
Caption: [Slow!]
Nino: Don’t hesitate like that. Do it without hesitation.
Aiba: But this way, your chances go up. Since you can see everything.
Narrator: Junia-san, are you ready?
Junia: Hai.
Narrator: Will Arashi win? Or will the Guest Team be victorious? Or will it turn into a tie, with Sudden Death?
Jun: How will it turn out?

Narrator: This is the last match. If the Guest Team secures more than 300 points at this stage, they will win. Will Arashi win? Or will the Guest Team be victorious? Or will it turn into a tie, with Sudden Death? You have 20 seconds. Falling Pipe, start!
Sho: Junia-san, I hear that surprisingly, you’re a bit of an airhead. Junia-san? There was apparently an incident where you forgot your car keys. Where were those keys?
Junia: In the car.
Sho: But you’d expect that you’d see them, right?
Narrator: Double catch! This is–
Junia: Awesome!
Akina: Wow! Amazing!
Narrator: 200 and 100 makes 300 points!
Narrator: Amidst all that pressure, Chihara Junia managed to get 300 points! In a sudden reversal, the Guest Team beautifully turns it around for a win!

Sho: Here are the prizes we’re giving you.
Junia: Thank you very much!
Sho: Why did you choose to have manga?
Junia: Well I like manga. And I’ve never read the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Thank you very much!
Sho: Thank you very much.
Sho: And this would be? Akina, what is this?
Akina: A vacuum cleaner. It’s an expensive bugger.
Sho: An expensive bugger.
Aiba: So you clean, huh?
Akina: Hardly ever.
Aiba: You don’t!
Jun: Then you don’t need it.
Sho: So how was it today? You two did a great job.
Jun: They were pretty good.
Aiba: Ah, we wanted to win.
Sho: Uh-huh. Sorry.

i wonder what Ohno meant when he said he cuts his hair from side to side. XDDD

THANKS!!!! This was quite a fun ep. Had Jun not scolded Ohchan, he would've gotten more than 230 points in the pipe catch. XDDD
Liann[info]jliann on January 2nd, 2009 10:03 pm (UTC)
It could also mean "Starting from the side," but I thought that was even more vague. XD

Jun was in top form that day. Lashing out at people left and right. Poor Oh-chan. And just think, he's probably in the middle of filming Uta no Oniisan, where his character gets abused left and right as well XD

eh? " through the party is in full swing" ---> i dont get this
did Aiba mean although Nino is already inside?
hahaha
thanks!! They all want Nino!
Liann[info]jliann on January 2nd, 2009 09:37 pm (UTC)
I THINK what Aiba meant is that he's crashing Nino's party, so to speak.

So it's like saying "Please let me join in, even though the party is already in full swing."

I had to look this one up too, so I can't be too sure ^^;;

The age thing is so cute--especially when you look at Oh-chan and Che Honman. I'd assume a 10-year age difference, at the very least XD

Happy New Year to you too~

Er... knowing almost nothing about this guy, I romanized it according to how it was spelled out in Japanese ^^;;;

I think he's Korean? Not sure, though... Do you know?
[info]akina_love on January 4th, 2009 01:12 am (UTC)
yeah, he's a korean wrestler who is super tall (7'2") which is probably why they laughed when compared with ohno. i saw him on heyx3 with kanjani8 lol.

Sometimes it's hard to believe Sho and Aiba are the same age. Sho usually seems older, more mature.

The shower story's so cute! I can never get enough of those.

Happy New Year!

Your icon made me laugh SO HARD XD Ohnose hehe.

Well Sho and Aiba are about...10 months apart in age? Almost a year, I guess.

Happy New Year right back!~

I still giggle every time I see it.

Thank you for translating and sharing this!! I agree with you, when Nino and Aiba were talking about being in the same shower, Oh-chan seemed unpleasant ><; But before this topic came up, Ohmiya already shake their hands. Maybe Nino knew that it will happen so he apologized first to Ohchan and said sumthing like "It was co-incidence" or "It was for emergency situation"... (ok,my imagination starts to get wild ><; )

It always feels to me like they're actually saying "I think you're an idiot, but I still respect you!!!"

LMAO so true!! Aw, Arashi <3 they are just so sweet.

Thank you for translating this! Someone subbed that clip of the shower part and put it on youtube, and I was like, "WHO BROUGHT UP THIS SUBJECT, I NEED TO THANK THEM FOR IT," so it's great to see the context!
This episode had a lot of great moments! Ohno cuts his own hair?? (I would have totally thought his mom did it for him XD) Jun: It's not like asking you will tell me anything. Then Nino: sometimes you can ask him. DYING. AND THEN-- AIBA, WHO ACTUALLY LOOKS UP WHEN THE CHOICE ASKS HIM TO. AIBA. WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

Also I am kind of glad Arashi lost, they have been winning too much lately!!

I think we have Aiba to thank for bringing up all the good stories XDDD Who else in Arashi can we depend on to air their backstage antics so shamelessly?

And Ohno's hair... I think he said before he'd rather save the money than spend it at the hairdresser's. Bet Matsujun thinks he's crazy XD

Aiba is just a cooperative woobie who cannot resist sweet requests (and outright demands). BUT WE LOVE HIM FOR IT.

...I-I'm kinda glad that Arashi lost too. It's more fun when they FAIL and learn from it XD
